‘Salthouse on the Square’ went through a massive renovation a few years ago and has since become one of the best eating and drinking pubs in Porthcawl. Not managing to avoid the recession, a few places have closed down in the town in recent years. But Salthouse has still managed to offer the atmosphere, food and hospitality that it’s become famous for.
The decor is pretty contemporary but unpretentious with lots of exposed stone and wood. Even though it’s not on the main waterfront strip it has some great sea views from a different angle and a lovely outside eating area. Lite bite lunches, Sunday lunches and full a la carte evening menu are all on offer. Steak Ciabatta, Nachos (with a twist), scallops, steaks, seafood and much more are all delicious. The restaurant, Sodium, has a lovely feel and nothing is too much trouble for the husband and wife team who run it. Emma Griffiths is front of house and her husband is the chef. Definitely worth a visit if you’re down that way. Only about half an hour from Cardiff or Swansea and plenty of parking nearby.
