Located in a tucked away position in St Mawes, Cornwall, but right opposite the sea.
Our visit was on a Sunday in November 2009 which qualified for the low season and mid week rate (Sunday to Thursday). We stayed in Room one (£225 per room per night) a detached suite of rooms with french doors to a large stone balcony, surrounded by lush tropical planting and superb sea views, walk in dressing room with safe, vestibule with writing desk, bedroom/lounge with TV, armchair and footstool, and table and chairs, enormous comfortable bed with crisp cotton bedding, with a stylish contemporary and relaxed decor.
A large bathroom that was like a roman spa with fantastic mosaic tiling and superb facilities, complete with sounds of the sea made bath-time a real treat! We had breakfast in our room (superb and prompt!) which we had indoors but in the summer would be lovely to have on the balcony over looking the sea.
We especially like the fact that we could go a few steps down a white washed outdoor pathway which is candlelit by night to a quiet well stocked bar and lounge which is also separate from the main Hotel. Lots of nooks and crannies to explore and relax in. The main part of the hotel has a large lounge with sofas and papers with a roaring fire.
The restaurant decor was cool and Mediterranean in style with definite sailing overtones. The food and wine was good, with a selection of local fish and seafood.
The hotel has many other facilities that we didn’t have time to explore including a Cinema, spa massage treatments and a Wendy house for children.
The only downside is it is a little on the pricey side, but having said that it is definitely worth it for a special celebration.
I have no hesitation whatsoever recommending this hotel as a peaceful romantic getaway destination.
