Billed as a Boutique B&B I had high expectations for the Seaforth. Alarm bells started ringing when the overly friendly very tanned man greeted us and pointed out where to park our car in the local council car park down the road, but to be fair he did give us a permit to make up for the hike back up to the house.
You could see straight away from the amount of ‘artfully placed’ brick-a-brac in the hallway and up the stairs they didn’t quite fully comprehend the definition of ‘Boutique’ and ‘less is more’, and I really don’t like mirrors balanced on stairs and too much stuff on floors as it’s not to everyone’s taste and is downright dangerous!
The room was billed as en-suite, but my idea of on ‘en suite’ is being able to walk from bed to bathroom WITHOUT having to say good morning to complete strangers on the stairs as you go up a few stairs to an adjacent room. The bathroom was NOT the sort of standard you’d expect for a ’boutique B&B’ as I’ve stayed at other ‘Boutique’ B&B’s with superb decor and bathroom fittings. To use the word ‘Boutique’ you really have to be giving something at least as good or better than you’d have at home, and I do have a heated towel rail, an extractor fan, fluffy bath towels and nice toiletries at home and I most definitely don’t have non-absorbent leopard print towels of dubious level of cleanliness.
Again in the bedroom, I had to laugh at the attempt to be ’boutique -y’ with the artfully placed pebbles on the bed which was just annoying, too much stuff, driftwood, boulders etc on the floor, just more stuff to gather dust and stub ones toes on, I’d much rather that the bedside lamps were in working order.
Needless to say we didn’t stick around to see their take on a ’boutique’ breakfast.
